Excellent progress can now be reported on the implementation of the Nurses Society of New Zealand (NSNZ) collective agreement (CA) with Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora.
Payment dates are now available for the roll out of the 2026 and 2027 pay increases, plus the back pay dates. In recent days members in most regions and other parts of Te Whatu Ora have received the lump sum payments that are part of the CA settlement. The members in the remaining regions will receive these between now and 26 August 2026.
Payment dates vary by region in part because Te Whatu Ora has 20 different payroll providers.
Although the CA was settled in April and formally ratified in May, with a body as large as Te Whatu Ora implementing a CA can take time and because of the complexity of the process. However, the process has taken longer than we expected. The delay has been partly due to Te Whatu Ora implementing a large number of CAs at the same time.
Nurses Society director David Wills says back-office cuts because of funding pressures are a further factor.
"The ratification date of our CA with Te Whatu Ora was later than other apposite CAs, and that also impacted payment dates for our members".
