Nurses and other staff employed by Shorecare received significant remediation payments last month. This follows representation by the Nurses Society in mid-2023 for Shorecare to do a compliance check.
Shorecare is a two-clinic urgent care serving Auckland's North Shore.
Following these representations by the Society, a rectification and remediation process was agreed upon and implemented. That process has taken over 28 months.
Although representations were on behalf of the nursing staff, the rectification and payments were extended to all staff. Remediation payments we made for both annual leave and sick leave issues.
Holidays Act issues primarily involve organisations with shift workers because the current legislation was largely designed around a standard Monday-to-Friday, 9-to-5 work week, making it difficult to apply to variable hours, rotating shifts, and non-standard work patterns.
