Nurses Society director David Wills says the decision will help reduce the current extreme pressure on hospital and other health services across the country.
Furthermore it will help reduce the spread of the flu.
Ideally the decision should have been made earlier, but moving the date forward to today for implementing the recent Pharmac decision to extend free influenza vaccinations to under 5-year-olds is a sound and sensible response to the current situation.
