The recent decision by the Government to cut tax by 50% on heated tobacco products is a retrograde step opposed by all health experts.

The Society views this $216 million gift to the tobacco industry as misguided and ill-conceived.

Notably the Ministry of Health advised against the move.

This move, promoted by the Associate Health Minister Casey Costello, panders to an immoral industry.  It is a move that industry has long lobbied for and it is a backward step.

There is no evidence that promoting heated tobacco products will help reduce nicotine addiction.
