In a submission to the Health Committee the Society has backed the main changes contained in the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products (Smoked Tobacco) Amendment Bill; commonly referred to as the Smokefree Bill. Main changes contained in the Bill include:

o   Reducing retail availability by regulating and restricting the number of approved retailers

o   Significantly reduce nicotine levels in smoked tobacco products

o   Prohibit the sale of smoked tobacco products to any person born on or after 1 January 2009.
