The move to power the Glenbrook steel plant with electricity from renewables rather than coal is a very significant climate change initiative by government. The move is calculated to be equivalent to taking 300,000 cars off the road.
Nurses Society director David Wills says anthropogenic climate change is a major public health issue and as such this a great move by the government.
"That said, at the risk of stating the obvious, clearly more action like this is needed".
It is great too that this project is paid for by polluters themselves, through revenues raised from the ETS.
The WHO ranks global warming as a top health issue.
